HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT 2009: 2 Sulu warring clans settled

Political clans in Sulu ended at last their bloody feud and agreed to a peaceful settlement after almost four years of hatred and bitterness that caused the loss of several lives and properties

Congressman Munir Arbison said the conflict started from a mistaken suspicion over the death of a political leader of Sulu way back 2005.

Arbison said Al-Hussein Caluang, former mayor and patriarch of the Caluang clan, and Al-Razhmie Halun, the incumbent mayor of Kalinggalan Caluang town, amicably settled their dispute in a recent gathering in one of the hotels in Manila.

The settlement of the conflict between the Caluangs and Haluns was done before Amado Ganoy, chairman of the Regional Reconciliation and Unification Commission (RRUC) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm), Commissioner Mukattil Adjail and Information Officer Alexander Mabinay.

Congressman Arbison said Ganoy's successful efforts in initiating the peaceful dialogue and eventual resolution of the conflict was witnessed by Armm Governor Datu Zaldy Ampatuan, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-Armm) Secretary Razul Abpi, Hadji Peping Halun, the father of the incumbent Kalingalan Caluang mayor and Tongkil town Mayor Wahid Sahidulla the said conflict was made possible through the support of the asia foundation.
